Students
www.visalondon.comTertiary students are
welcomed to the United Kingdom, both because of the funds that they bring to
academic institutions and the long term benefits that the country receives from
future networking.
Study may be undertaken at publicly funded institutions or bone fide private
educational establishments. Prospective students at private institutions should
ensure that they are properly run and keep adequate records of enrollment,
attendance and progress. These will be required if you seek to prolong your
studies.
Unless your studies lead to a recognised degree, your studies should be at a
single institution and involve not less than 15 hours per week of organised
daytime study. This should be one subject or a number of closely related
subjects. It is not permitted to take a number of small courses to make up the
hours.
Although you are required to be able to meet the cost of your studies,
accommodation and maintenance, you are permitted to take part-time work (less
than 20 hours per week) term time and full-time work during vacations. This
provision has been relaxed recently and there are few formalities involved.
However, the authorities are vigilant to studies being used as a front to other
activities.
Unless your studies continue for many years (7 or 10 depending on your family
circumstances), you will not derive any residence rights in the United Kingdom
and are expected to leave on completion of your courses. Some students may
enter employment under the work-permit scheme but these are in cases where
their skills are are in shortage in the United Kingdom.
