Working Holidays
www.visalondon.com
Commonwealth citizens aged
17 to 27 who have not yet settled down may come to the United Kingdom for
extended holidays of up to two years. In the case of married couples, each must
qualify under this category in their own right. If applicants have children,
the children should remain under the age of five during the extended holiday.
Applicants should have sufficient means to maintain and accommodate themselves
and have the funds to pay for their onward or return journey. However, they may
take employment incidental to their holiday whilst in the United Kingdom. This
provision of the Immigration Rules has been widely abused and the authorities
have responded by taking a firmer line on its implementation. Mortgages and
other long-term financial commitments now weigh heavily against applicants
before travel and the types of employment taken in the United Kingdom are more
closely considered.
Working-holidaymakers may not pursue their careers whilst in this capacity and
employers and employment agencies are becoming wary of engaging professionals
in such positions as they become aware of the sanctions that might be imposed
on them. Until recently, working-holidaymakers were routinely granted
permission to remain for two years upon arrival. This is now being curtailed to
reflect the means that they have available to them.
If you have a specific question relating to working-holidaymakers, please email

enquiry form.
